Ms. Ruchira Gupta awarded Clinton Global Citizens award

Congratulations to Nomi Advisory Board member Ruchira Gupta for her distinction!

On September 24, Ms. Gupta received the prestigious Clinton Global Citizens award for her commitment to end human trafficking and gender-based violence, and to foster lasting positive social change around the world. Ms. Gupta is the founder of Apne Aap, a Delhi-based organization that supports women and children trafficked into prostitution in Bihar, Delhi, Mahrashtra and West Bengal.

Esosa Edosomwan to speak at luncheon

Esosa Edosomwan to make an appearance as keynote speaker at Nomi's product launch party.

Esosa Edosomwan is an award winning actress/writer/"directress," who received her Bachelors degree in Textiles and Apparel Design from Cornell University and a Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Film & Marketing Management from Columbia University. She has received several awards and distinctions since the beginning of her artistic career, including 2008 Brooklyn Arts Re-Grant and the 2007 Frances E. Williams Artist Grant. Her work as actress has screened in numerous festivals worldwide including the International Film Festival Rotterdam and Milano Film Festival, on BET-J, in the MOMA, and in 2008 Whitney Biennial. For five years she played the role of Malady in the Audelco Award winning show, Platanos & Collard Greens.

She has written and directed several short films to date, including: "Simple As Black & White" (2004), "Coming Home" (2008), and "50 Bucks in Argentina" (2007), which was MTV-U Film of the Week, and Best Short at the Nigerian Entertainment International Film Festival. She was recently chosen for a young filmmakers panel by the New York Mayor's Office of Film, Theater, and Broadcasting and completed a sketch comedy webisode series on blip.tv called "Take One." On the acting front, she has just finished playing the lead role in a romantic comedy pilot/featurette tentatively titled "The Wedding," directed by Femi Agbayewa. Upcoming projects include a short film entitled "Diary of a Diana Ross Diva" and her feature film "One Night in Brooklyn," which is sponsored by the Film Forum.

Ms. Edosomwan will be lending her passion for empowering women, as the keynote speaker at Nomi Network's product launch party held the White Saffron on October 1 in NYC.

Board member Dr. Laura Lederer presents Nomi's "Buy Her Bag, Not Her Body" tote to actress Lucy Liu at USAID Anti-Trafficking Symposium.

USAID hosted Anti-Trafficking Symposium entitled "USAID Anti-Trafficking Programs: Moving Forward With a Decade of Experience" at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC. UNICEF Ambassador and Actress, Lucy Liu, who has been an active proponent of anti-trafficking issues, delivered compelling luncheon remarks. She is passionate about anti-child trafficking efforts and recently produced a film called Red Light, a documentary that focuses on human trafficking in Cambodia.

Kate Ancketill Joins Nomi

Kate Ancketill joins Nomi Network's Board of Advisors.

Ms. Ancketill brings yet another creative and entrepreneurial spirit to Nomi Network as the newest member on the Board of Advisors. She currently serves as Managing Director of GDR Creative Intelligence.

After studying politics as a postgrad, Ms. Ancketill worked for Amnesty International for seven years in research and policy writing. In 1997, she started at GDR Creative Intelligence as an assistant, became a partner after two years, and bought the company four years later. In 2000, she reoriented the company's work towards research into innovation in design, experiential marketing, technology, new media, packaging and service within the retail and hospitality sectors, tapping into an extensive network of thousands of the world's most inspirational designers, architects, technologists, academics and strategists for source material.

Today, GDR specialises in trend analysis and forecasting. Over 16 years of working together with the most creative thinkers allows GDR to provide essential insights and consultancy services within retail and hospitality innovation. Advisory Board member Siddarth Kara received fellowships from Harvard Carr Center for Human Rights Policy and TED India.

As of last week, Mr. Kara, an affiliate of Harvard Kennedy School's Carr Center Human Rights and Social Movements Program and one of Nomi Network's advisors, became one of this year's two fellows for the Carr Center's Initiative to Stop Human Trafficking. Additionally, TEDIndia named him among this year's fellows for his research regarding the business and economic analysis of the global sex trafficking industry. He will be speaking at the conference in November of this year.
